2024년 8월 2일, 제23기 유엔 전문가 교육 프로그램의 마지막 강연 일정이 성황리에 마무리되었습니다. 4일간의 긴 여정 동안 모든 학생들은 단 한 명의 이탈 없이 끝까지 성실하게 참여하며, 국제 이슈에 대한 이해와 글로벌 시민으로서의 자질을 한층 더 심화시켰습니다. 오늘도 기후 변화, 도시 개발, 농식품 시스템, 물과 위생, 인권에 이르는 다섯 개의 핵심 강연이 진행되었습니다.
On August 2, 2024, the final day of the 23rd Training Program on the United Nations concluded with a strong lineup of expert sessions. Despite the tight schedule and challenging time zone differences, all students remained committed and actively engaged throughout the four-day program?a true testament to their passion and perseverance. Today’s lectures covered five critical areas: climate action, sustainable cities, agri-food systems, water and sanitation, and human rights.
Session 1. Climate Simulation: 기후 변화 정책 시뮬레이션
연사: Kadir Jun Ayhan 교수 (이화여자대학교 국제학부)
Kadir Jun Ayhan 교수님은 ‘Climate Change Simulation’을 주제로, 시뮬레이션을 활용한 기후 시나리오 분석 기법을 소개하셨습니다. 참가자들은 조별로 나뉘어 가상의 정책 선택과 결과 분석을 직접 수행해보며, 기후 변화 대응의 복잡성과 국제 협력 및 정책 결정의 중요성을 체감할 수 있었습니다.
Through a hands-on Climate Change Simulation exercise, students worked in teams to analyze different climate policy scenarios and their long-term impacts. Prof. Ayhan led an engaging session where students actively discussed the complex trade-offs of climate policy and gained practical insight into international climate decision-making.
Session 2. SDG 11: 지속 가능한 도시와 기후 회복력
연사: Robert Ndugwa (UN-Habitat)
UN-Habitat의 Robert Ndugwa 연사님은 SDG 11 관련 활동을 중심으로, 도시화와 기후 위기의 접점을 짚어보았습니다. 도시 내 불평등, 주거 문제, 그리고 기후 회복력(Climate Resilience) 등 도시 지속가능성을 위협하는 과제들을 소개하고, 이를 해결하기 위한 지역 사회 기반의 혁신 사례들을 공유했습니다. 학생들은 도시와 공동체의 지속 가능성이 글로벌 아젠다의 핵심임을 실감했습니다.
This session explored the intersection of urban development and climate change, emphasizing inclusive planning, climate resilience, and access to basic urban services. Students learned how the future of cities depends on sustainable infrastructure, equity, and community participation in tackling challenges like urban inequality and housing crises.
Session 3. Agri-Food: 지속 가능한 농식품 시스템으로의 전환
연사: 이나라 부소장 (FAO 한국협력연락사무소)
Ms. Lee provided an overview of global food system challenges, including environmental degradation, inefficient distribution, and growing inequality. Her lecture emphasized the urgent need to transform agri-food systems for both people and the planet, outlining innovative solutions and the importance of multilateral cooperation and technology in this transition.
Session 4. SDG 6: 깨끗한 물과 위생을 위한 국제 협력
연사: Klas Moldeus (UN Water)
전 세계 수십억 명이 여전히 깨끗한 물과 위생 시설에 접근하지 못하는 현실 속에서, Klas Moldeus 연사님은 SDG 6의 달성을 위한 UN Water의 다양한 프로젝트를 소개해 주셨습니다. 특히 물 부족 문제 해결을 위한 국가 간 협력과 지역 커뮤니티의 참여가 얼마나 중요한지 강조하며, 물과 위생 문제가 개발, 건강, 인권과 어떻게 교차하는지 설명해 주셨습니다.
Focusing on one of the most basic human needs, this session highlighted the global water crisis and UN Water’s strategies to achieve SDG 6. Students explored how water scarcity, sanitation, and hygiene intersect with development, health, and human dignity?and stressed the critical importance of transboundary cooperation and local community engagement to close the access gap.
Session 5. Human Rights: 인권의 실천과 SDGs 내의 평등
연사: 신정민 선생님 (OHCHR, 유엔 인권최고대표사무소)
국제 인권 변호사로서 풍부한 경험을 가진 신정민 연사님은 유엔 인권최고대표사무소(OHCHR)의 역할과 특별 절차(Special Procedures)에 대해 설명해 주셨습니다. 특히 SDGs 전반에 걸쳐 핵심 가치인 ‘평등’과 ‘차별 금지’가 어떻게 구체적으로 실현될 수 있는지 사례 중심으로 공유하며, 참가자들은 인권이 모든 지속 가능성의 기초임을 다시 한번 확인할 수 있었습니다.
Drawing from her experience, Ms. Shin discussed the role of OHCHR and its Special Procedures to promote the core values of equality and non-discrimination within the SDG framework. The session provided case-based examples, showing how human rights standards are implemented across different legal systems and reinforcing the idea that human rights are the foundational prerequisite for all sustainable development.
4일간 시차를 넘나드는 강도 높은 일정 속에서도 끝까지 자리를 지켜준 모든 학생 여러분께 진심으로 박수를 보냅니다. 이번 교육을 통해 얻은 지식과 경험이, 앞으로 글로벌 문제 해결의 현장에서 빛날 수 있기를 진심으로 응원하며, 프로그램의 마지막을 장식할 팀 프로젝트 발표를 기대합니다.
