안녕하세요, 외교부 소관의 비영리 사단법인이자 유엔 공보국(UN DGC) 협력지위를 보유한 국제 NGO (사)미래희망기구입니다.
2024년 7월 30일, 제23기 유엔 전문가 교육 프로그램이 온라인 플랫폼 Zoom을 통해 막을 올렸습니다. 우리나라의 중·고등학생 및 청년 참가자들이 4박 5일간 유엔 본부와 다양한 국제기구에 근무하고 계시는 전문가 분들을 만나며 국제 이슈에 대한 이해를 넓히고, 세계시민으로서의 자질을 함양하게 된 과정을 소개해드리고자 합니다.

On July 30, the 23rd UN Expert Training Program officially began in New York City. Over five days, Korean middle and high school students, along with young professionals, will engage in intensive sessions and site visits to the UN Headquarters and affiliated agencies to deepen their understanding of global issues and develop as responsible global citizens.
Day 1 featured six main sessions and one special session, all met with enthusiastic participation from students.
세션 1 - 유엔 본부의 역사와 설립 목적
연사: Hulda Maganga Ngouail (UN Headquarters Tour Guide)
유엔 본부 투어를 담당하고 있는 연사님의 강연은 유엔의 설립 배경, 기본 구조, 그리고 국제 평화와 안보를 위한 핵심 역할을 중심으로 진행되었습니다. 참가자들은 유엔의 역사와 존재 이유에 대한 깊은 통찰을 얻으며 프로그램의 시작을 의미 있게 열 수 있었습니다.
The speaker offered in-depth insights into the UN’s founding history, structure, and mission. Students gained a broader perspective on the role of the UN in fostering global peace and security, setting a powerful tone for the rest of the program.
세션 2 - 지속가능발전목표(SDGs)의 이해
연사: Christian Mortelliti (UN ESCAP)
17개의 SDGs가 어떻게 상호 연결되어 전 지구적 발전을 촉진하는지를 구체적으로 설명해 주셨습니다. 복잡한 글로벌 이슈를 SDGs를 통해 분석하고, 실천 가능한 해결책을 모색하는 데 있어 국제기구의 역할이 얼마나 중요한지를 깨닫는 시간이었습니다.
Each of the 17 SDGs was presented in detail, highlighting how they interlink and contribute to sustainable development worldwide. The session helped students explore how international organizations serve as critical actors in solving global challenges.
세션 3 - 유엔 시스템의 이해와 국제사회에서의 역할
연사: 이영진 담당관 (WFUNA)
유엔의 구조 및 주요 기구들의 기능, 그리고 협력체계에 대한 명확한 설명이 이루어졌으며, 특히 학생들의 질문이 활발히 오가며 토론이 이어져 매우 생동감 있는 세션이 되었습니다.
This session clarified the UN's structure and key bodies, emphasizing how its multilateral framework shapes international cooperation. The lively Q&A session fostered engaging dialogue among students and the speaker.
Special Session - 마술을 통한 휴식과 재충전
출연: 김태환 마술사
오후 세션 시작 전, 장시간의 강연에 지친 학생들을 위해 준비된 마술 공연은 모두에게 큰 웃음과 활력을 불어넣었습니다. 일상에서 벗어난 신선한 경험으로 긴장감도 해소되었습니다.
To re-energize students in the afternoon, a captivating magic show offered a moment of fun and wonder, helping participants relax and recharge for the remaining sessions.
세션 4 - SDG 16과 북한: 불법 금융과 무기거래
연사: 유현승 (MA in Asian Studies, Georgetown University)
북한의 불법 금융 활동과 무기 거래가 국제사회 및 지역 안보에 미치는 영향에 대해 구체적인 사례와 함께 설명하였으며, 이 문제가 SDG 16 '평화, 정의, 제도 구축'과 어떻게 연결되는지를 탐구하였습니다.
The session explored North Korea's illicit financial operations and arms trade, examining their implications for regional security and international stability. The speaker effectively linked these challenges to the goals of SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
세션 5 - SDG 16과 새로운 평화 의제
연사: 유준형 부소장 (UNRCPD)
유엔 사무총장이 제안한 ‘New Agenda for Peace’를 중심으로 현대 평화 구축에 필요한 포용적 접근과 정책적 대안을 제시해 주셨습니다. 참가자들은 글로벌 거버넌스와 평화유지에 대한 고민을 더욱 확장해 볼 수 있었습니다.
The speaker introduced the "New Agenda for Peace" proposed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and emphasized innovative policy approaches to peacebuilding in today’s world. Students were encouraged to critically reflect on the evolving nature of international peace efforts.
세션 6 - 미국 명문대 진학과 커리어 여정
연사: Joe Kim (Yale University 경제학 전공), Suyeon Lee (Harvard University 경영학 석사)
연사님들은 한국에서 학업을 시작해 미국 아이비리그에 진학한 개인 경험을 바탕으로, 입시 과정뿐만 아니라 대학생활 및 커리어 개발까지 실질적인 조언을 아낌없이 공유해 주셨습니다.
In this career session, the speakers shared their personal journeys from Korea to Ivy League schools in the U.S., offering candid advice on academic planning, extracurricular activities, and career-building strategies for youth with global aspirations.
새벽부터 늦은 저녁까지 이어진 12시간의 강도 높은 일정을 묵묵히 소화해낸 모든 참가자 여러분께 감사의 인사를 전하며, 앞으로의 일정에서도 더 많은 배움과 성장의 시간이 이어지기를 기대합니다.
