오늘은 제19기 유엔 전문가 교육의 4일차이자, 강연 일정의 마지막 날이었습니다. 오늘까지 총 24개의 알찬 강연이 진행되었으며, 모든 학생들이 한결같이 성실하게 참여해 준 것에 깊이 감사드립니다. 대장정의 마무리는 내일 진행될 SDGs 팀 발표회가 장식할 예정입니다.
Today marked the fourth, and final, day of the lecture series for the 19th UN Expert Training program. We are grateful for the dedicated commitment shown by all students across the 24 intensive sessions. The grand finale of this journey will be the SDGs Team Presentation tomorrow, marking the official end of the training.
Session 1. SDG 16: 평화, 정의, 그리고 핵 비확산
강연: Takashi Mashiko (UNODA, 유엔 군축실)
4일차의 첫 교육은 유엔 군축실(UNODA)의 Takashi Mashiko 선생님께서 진행해 주셨습니다. 학생들의 'SDG 16: 평화, 정의와 제도' 관련 발표에 이어, 핵확산 방지의 중요성과 핵무기비확산조약(NPT)의 발전 방향에 대해 강의하셨습니다. 특히, SDG 16의 세부 목표 중 불법 자금 및 무기 거래에 대한 제도적 시행 방안을 설명해 주셨습니다. 학생들은 구체적인 국제 조약과 정책을 살펴보며 핵 비확산 사회를 향한 우리 사회의 나아갈 바를 함께 모색해 보았습니다.
The first lecture of Day 4 was conducted by Mr. Takashi Mashiko from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). Following the students' presentation on "SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions," he lectured on the importance of nuclear nonproliferation and the current status and future direction of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). By closely analyzing SDG 16, particularly focusing on the implementation of mechanisms to counter illicit finance and arms trade, students were able to conceptualize how society should pursue the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Session 2. UN Career: 유엔 근무를 위한 실질적 조언
강연: 노지연 사무관 (UNODA, 유엔 군축실)
두 번째 강연은 유엔 군축실(UNODA)의 노지연 사무관님께서 유엔 커리어를 주제로 진행해 주셨습니다. 해외 유학 경험부터 유엔 기구 인턴십, 그리고 현재에 이르기까지 커리어를 발견하고 구축하기 위한 노력과 과정에 대한 생생한 경험담을 들을 수 있었습니다. 사무관님의 진심 어린 조언과 학생들의 적극적인 질의응답을 통해, ODA 직무를 포함하여 인터넷에서는 얻기 힘든 유엔 근무의 현실적인 장단점과 필요 역량에 대한 궁금증을 해소할 수 있었습니다.
The second session was presented by Ms. Ji Yeon Rho, an Associate Expert at UNODA. She shared her vivid personal journey, from discovering her career path through overseas study and internships to her efforts in securing a position at the UN. Through active questions and Ms. Rho's heartfelt advice, students received practical answers regarding UN career opportunities and the required strengths?insights that are typically hard to find online.
Session 3. Food Security: FAO의 역할과 식량 안보 전략
강연: Tang Sheng Yao 소장 (FAO 한국협력연락사무소)
세 번째 강연은 유엔식량농업기구(FAO) 한국협력연락사무소(PLO)의 Tang Sheng Yao 소장님께서 진행해 주셨습니다. FAO의 창설 배경과 주요 의무, 세계 식량 안보를 추구하기 위한 SDG 전략, 그리고 식량 안보와 영양 개선의 중요성을 다루었습니다. 특히 FAO와 대한민국 간의 협력 연결고리를 설명하며, 학생들이 UN이 기아 종식과 인류 생활 수준 개선을 위해 펼치는 구체적인 활동을 이해할 수 있는 시간이었습니다.
The third lecture was conducted by Mr. Tang Sheng Yao, the FAO Representative and Head of the FAO Liaison Office in the Republic of Korea. He addressed the background and mandate of the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), its strategies for achieving SDGs, the importance of food security and nutrition, and the critical link between FAO and the Republic of Korea. This session helped students understand the specific activities the UN undertakes to end hunger and improve human life and nutrition levels globally.
Session 4. Career Development: 예일대생의 국제 경험
강연: Shawn Thacker (콜롬비아 대법원 Junior Law Clerk)
커리어 개발을 주제로 한 네 번째 강의는 현재 콜롬비아 헌법재판소에서 Junior Law Clerk으로 근무 중인 Shawn Thacker 선생님이 맡아 주셨습니다. 예일대학교 재학생으로서의 학업 생활과 더불어 한국에서의 유학 경험, 국제 기관 및 리서치 기업에서의 근무 경험을 소개했습니다. 장래에 해외 대학 진학이나 국제 취업을 고려하고 있는 학생들에게 특히 실질적이고 유익한 조언을 제공한 강연이었습니다.
The Career Development lecture was given by Mr. Shawn Thacker. He introduced his college life as a Yale University student and his diverse work experience, including his time as a foreign student in Korea and his professional roles in international institutions and research companies in the US. His lecture provided particularly useful insights for students considering pursuing overseas universities or future employment in the international arena.
Session 5. Final UN Career: 하버드 로스쿨 인권 변호사의 길
강연: 신정민 (인권 변호사, 하버드 로스쿨 졸업)
이번 교육의 마지막 세션은 현재 매사추세츠에서 인권 변호사로 활동하고 계시는 신정민 선생님이 진행해 주셨습니다. 중국에서의 유년기, 하버드 로스쿨 졸업에 이르기까지의 과정과 국제 정치 및 인권 문제에 관심을 가지게 된 배경을 솔직하게 공유해 주셨습니다. 특히 대학 졸업 후 스위스 제네바에서 2년간 인턴십을 했던 경험은 학생들에게 큰 동기 부여가 되었으며, 글로벌 시민으로 성장하기 위해 참여하면 좋을 활동들과 가져야 할 마음가짐을 강조하셨습니다.
The final career session of the program was conducted by Ms. Jungmin Shin, an International Human Rights Lawyer. She candidly shared her unique life trajectory?from spending her early years in China to graduating from Harvard Law School?and how she developed her passion for international politics and human rights issues. Her two-year internship experience in Geneva, Switzerland, after college resonated deeply with the students. She concluded by emphasizing the essential mindset and valuable activities needed to grow into a global citizen ready for a broader stage.
이로써 제19기 유엔 전문가 교육의 모든 강연 일정이 성공적으로 마무리되었습니다. 한국과 미국의 시차를 오가며 이틀 연속 성실하게 모든 강의에 참여해 준 학생들에게 진심으로 감사드리며, 내일 있을 SDGs 팀 발표회에서 멋진 결과물을 기대하겠습니다. 발표회 영상은 추후 미래희망기구 유튜브 채널을 통해 공개될 예정입니다.
