안녕하세요, 외교부 소관의 비영리 사단법인이자 유엔 공보국 협력 지위를 획득한 국제 NGO (사)미래희망기구입니다.
오늘(8월 2일)부터 오는 4박 5일간 '제19기 유엔 전문가 교육'이 진행됩니다. 설레는 마음으로 시작한 1일차에는 오전 8시 30분부터 밤늦게까지 총 6개의 심도 있는 세션이 진행되었습니다. 미래의 글로벌 리더를 꿈꾸는 학생들의 뜨거웠던 교육 현장과 상세 내용을 공유해 드립니다.
Greetings from Hope to the Future Association (HFA), a non-profit organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an international NGO associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC).
Today (August 2nd) marks the beginning of the 19th Training Program on the United Nations, a comprehensive 5-day program. The first day commenced at 8:30 AM and featured six intensive sessions. We are pleased to share the details and photos from the vibrant scene where aspiring global leaders gathered to learn and grow.
Session 1. UN Briefing: 유엔의 역할과 비전
강연: Felipe Gueipo & Ana Manero (UN DGC)
첫 번째 세션은 유엔 공보국(UN DGC)의 Felipe Gueipo, Ana Manero 선생님과 함께했습니다. 두 분은 유엔의 설립 배경과 핵심 목표, 그리고 국제사회에서의 역할에 대해 상세히 설명해 주셨습니다. 특히 SDGs(지속가능발전목표) 달성을 독려하며 "UN needs you more than you need UN(여러분이 유엔을 필요로 하는 것보다, 유엔이 여러분을 더 필요로 합니다)"라는 말씀으로 학생들의 가슴을 뜨겁게 울리며 교육의 포문을 열어주셨습니다.
The first session was led by Mr. Felipe Gueipo and Ms. Ana Manero from the UN Department of Global Communications (UN DGC). They provided an in-depth overview of the UN's establishment, core goals, and its pivotal role in the international community. Encouraging the achievement of the SDGs, they opened the program with an inspiring message: “The UN needs you more than you need the UN,” igniting a strong sense of purpose among the students.
Session 2. World Expo 2030: 더 나은 미래를 향한 항해
강연: 박은하 전 주영국 대사
두 번째 시간은 박은하 전 주영국 대사님께서 맡아주셨습니다. 대사님께서는 '2030 부산 세계박람회(World Expo 2030)'가 갖는 상징적 의미와 목표에 대해 강연해 주셨습니다. 단순한 행사를 넘어, 세계의 대전환과 인류의 더 나은 미래를 위해 부산 엑스포가 어떤 비전을 제시하고 있는지에 대해 외교관으로서의 깊은 통찰을 나누어 주셨습니다.
The second session was conducted by Amb. Enna Park, the former Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She discussed the significance of the World Expo 2030 which will be held in Busan. Amb. Park shared her diplomatic insights on the vision of the Busan Expo, emphasizing its role not just as an event, but as a catalyst for global transformation and a better future for humanity.
Session 3. Public Diplomacy: 공공외교와 정책 목표
강연: Kadir Jun Ayhan 교수 (이화여자대학교)
세 번째 세션은 이화여대 국제대학원 Kadir Jun Ayhan 교수님께서 진행해 주셨습니다. 학생들은 각 국가의 공공외교 목표(Public Diplomacy Goals)에 대해 브레인스토밍하고 의견을 발표하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 교수님께서는 외교 정책 목표(Foreign Policy Goals)를 뒷받침하는 공공외교의 메커니즘을 설명해 주셨으며, 학생들과의 자유로운 질의응답과 피드백을 통해 양방향 소통이 빛난 수업이었습니다.
Professor Kadir Jun Ayhan from Ewha Womans University led the third session. Students engaged in brainstorming regarding various Public Diplomacy Goals and shared their perspectives. Prof. Ayhan explained how public diplomacy serves to back up Foreign Policy Goals. The session was highly interactive, characterized by free-flowing Q&A and constructive feedback between the professor and the students.
Session 4. Data Science & Society: 데이터로 보는 불평등과 민주주의
강연: 김재연 교수 (KDI 국제정책대학원)
네 번째 강의는 'The Unequal Landscape of Civic Opportunity in America'를 주제로 KDI 김재연 교수님께서 진행하셨습니다. 이번 교육 중 유일하게 사회과학과 데이터 사이언스(Data Science)를 다룬 이 시간에는, 데이터를 기반으로 민주주의의 중요성을 역설하셨습니다. 국제 관계와 사회 현상을 분석함에 있어 통계가 어떻게 강력한 도구로 활용될 수 있는지 배울 수 있는 유익한 시간이었습니다.
Under the theme “The Unequal Landscape of Civic Opportunity in America,” Prof. Jae-yeon Kim from the KDI School delivered the fourth lecture. As the only session covering Social Science and Data Science, it highlighted the importance of democracy based on data. Students learned how statistics can be utilized as a powerful tool for analyzing international relations and social phenomena.
Session 5. Human Rights: 인권과 정의를 위한 행동
강연: Jessica Dewhurst (The Justice Desk CEO & Founder)
다섯 번째 세션은 The Justice Desk의 설립자이자 CEO인 Jessica Dewhurst 선생님께서 '인권'을 주제로 강연하셨습니다. 아프리카 현장에서 목격한 차별과 인권 유린의 실태, 그리고 불평등에 맞서 싸운 생생한 경험담을 공유해 주셨습니다. 학생들은 성차별과 경제적 불평등 문제에 대해 적극적으로 질문하며, 정의로운 세상을 만들기 위해 우리가 가져야 할 자세에 대해 깊이 고민해보는 시간을 가졌습니다.
The fifth session featured Ms. Jessica Dewhurst, CEO and Founder of The Justice Desk. She shared her vivid experiences regarding discrimination and human rights violations in Africa, as well as her fight against inequality. Students actively asked questions about gender discrimination and economic inequality, deeply reflecting on the attitude required to build a more just world.
Session 6. Ivy League Mentoring: 글로벌 커리어 로드맵
강연: 고현조 (브라운 대학교 졸업, 전 유엔 본부 인턴)
마지막 여섯 번째 세션은 아이비리그 멘토링 시간으로 마련되었습니다. 대원외고를 거쳐 브라운 대학교(Brown University)를 졸업한 고현조 선생님께서 멘토로 나섰습니다. 한국에서의 중고교 생활부터 미국 대학 입시 준비 과정, 그리고 대학 시절의 다양한 활동과 뉴욕 유엔 본부 인턴십 경험까지, 생생한 커리어 로드맵을 공유하며 학생들에게 구체적인 동기를 부여해 주었습니다.
The final session was an Ivy League Mentoring session led by Ms. Hyun-jo Koh, a graduate of Daewon Foreign Language High School and Brown University. She shared her personal journey from high school in Korea to admission into a US university, her campus activities, and her internship experience at the UN Headquarters in New York. Her story provided students with a concrete roadmap and strong motivation for their own global careers.
이른 아침부터 약 12시간 동안 이어진 강행군에도 불구하고, 끝까지 반짝이는 눈빛으로 1일차 교육에 성실히 임해준 모든 학생에게 깊은 감사의 박수를 보냅니다. 남은 교육 기간도 많은 응원 부탁드립니다. :)
